WERRIBEE was rewarded for an outstanding season in the Victorian Sub District Cricket Association with two players named in the competition’s Team of the Year.
Tigers’ captain Shaun Dean and all-rounder Tim O’Brien both secured selection in the high calibre XI which was littered with former district, state and even international players.
Dean enjoyed an outstanding season with the bat, scoring double figures in 15 of his 16 innings.
In what was also his first season as Werribee captain, Dean hit four half centuries with a top score of 86 not out coming in round 12 against the Kingston Saints.
O’Brien’s season was equally impressive with both bat and ball after he joined the Tigers in the off-season and took on the vice-captaincy.
He hit two centuries and four half centuries, while also taking 24 wickets.
Not finished there, the gun all-rounder etched his named into the Werribee Cricket Club history books with his highest score of 183 not out against Moorabbin breaking the club record.
In that match he added nearly 200 runs with opening batsman Matt Dean.
Capping off a stunning season, O’Brien came third in voting in the R.M. Hatch Medal awarded to the best player of the season across the competition.
That was won by Melton’s Mick Allen while Williamstown’s Craig Sheedy came second.
