A FIRE that ripped through a Laverton North factory last week caused the Metropolitan Fire Brigade to advise residents to keep their doors and windows closed.
Crews from the MFB and CFA were called to the fire at the Australian Paper Recovery bailing and packing shed just before 8pm on Thursday 2 August.
The warehouse, which a CFA spokesperson said measured more than 4500 square metres, was completely engulfed by fire when crews arrived.
The fire was reported to have caused $2 million worth of damage.
Almost 15 hours after the fire was controlled crews were still at the scene while the warehouse continued to smulder.
Up to 14 pumpers and 70 firefighters attended the scene at the height of the blaze with three aerial units also involved in fighting the fire.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the MFB’s Fire Investigation Unit.
