THEY might be young, but they know their history.
Grade six St Monica’s students Labonno Akhter and Helen Bezuneh both took out the National History Challenge in the Asia and Australia category.
Labonno and Helen looked at the story of the Afghan cameleers and their impact on Australian history for their submission, Unrecognised Pioneers.
“Labonno and Helen have done very well to take on such an interesting and complex topic and put together a high quality submission,” Gellibrand MP Nicola Roxon said.
“They have done extremely well in finishing as national category winners in the National History Challenge.
“Australian history is very important and this level of success shows that our schools are doing something right and ensuring that our students have a good understanding of it”.
The National History Challenge is a competition that encourages students to use research and inquiry based learning to discover more about Australia and its past.
This year’s theme was celebrations, memory and history.
