IN Big V State basketball on Sunday, the Altona senior men’s team won a thrilling match against Sunbury by four points.
The game was tied at 50-all at the end of the second half before Altona hit the lead in the final minutes. The Gators kept up the pace and started to dominate, landing some good three-point shots and won 69-65.
Jason Schielke made a great shot to put the Gators in front.
The senior women’s team easily accounted for Sunbury, winning 86-58.

WERRIBEE Devils women were thrashed by Craigieburn, mustering only 37 points to 75 at Werribee Sports and Fitness Centre on Saturday.
The men’s side had a bye, which will be the first of two weeks off, as competition takes a break for the Queen’s Birthday weekend.

RIDERS are gearing up for what is arguably the Footscray Cycling Club’s most gruelling event for the year – the annual three-day tour, which is on this long weekend.
Dom Dudkiewicz, Adam Murchie and Steve Pilson are the favourites for the 52nd running.
Saturday at noon marks the first of four stages, with 50 riders in three divisions setting off on an 85km stage taking in several killer hills, including the run up and over Granite Rd. Sunday will test riders even further, with a time trial in the hills around the town of Maude, followed by a true test of stamina with four laps of the notorious She-Oaks circuit, which features treacherous high speed descents, several steep climbs, and fast runs along the back of the circuit.
The fourth stage on Monday will see the completion of three laps of the You Yangs circuit before the final push to the finish line at the top of the You Yangs.

ALTONA’S men’s hockey side claimed its second win of the season with a convincing 5-2 victory against bottom side Albury on Saturday, with Jesse Gatt scoring his first State League One hat trick.
“While the rain turned the match into a pretty ugly spectacle for our supporters in the stands, we actually adapted very well, and managed to score three goals in those conditions. We have been doing a mountain of work with Gatt on his finishing during the past fortnight and it obviously paid off,” coach Darren Duff said.
