Jets fail to fire, again

THE Western Jets did not fire a shot when the game was alive on Saturday, going down to the North Ballarat Rebels by a modest 33 points at Burbank Oval.
The margin blew out to 66 points at three-quarter time before the Jets put on a six-goal last quarter to restore some respectability to the score sheet.
The final score saw the Rebels run out winners 17.17.119 to the Jets’ 13.8.86.
Best again was the ever consistent Adam Kennedy through the midfield, and forward Jesse McLellan who bagged six majors for the Jets.
Jets regional manager Shane Sexton said it was again a case of the same old for his side in the loss, but the last quarter endeavour was a positive.
“Ballarat got away at the start, and they were able to maintain that lead pretty much all the way through. We were pleased with the way our kids finished off, we kicked six goals to one in the last quarter, so they didn’t give up, they kept trying.
“The same old story, we just didn’t get enough contributors, skill errors, decision making errors, and basically weren’t able to match a pretty solid opposition.
Sexton had big wraps on Kennedy who has had mortgage space in the Jets’ best in 2010.
“We’re pleased with Adam, what you see is what you get. His season has stepped up now, he’s spending the majority of time in the midfield. His clearance work was excellent, getting in and under and winning the ball himself. He would have had a fair few of our clearances from centre bounces which was a terrific effort.”
A name however that pops in and out of the Jets’ squad is McLellan, who had a day out on Saturday.
“Jesse is Werribee Amateurs (listed), he’s been in and out of the side over a two-year period. He played in a few roles down forward and had a terrific day, which was good for him. He presented pretty well and made the most of his opportunities, to kick six goals in a TAC Cup match is a really good effort.”
The Jets take on the Murray Bushrangers at NAB Oval on 27 June, following a break from TAC Cup football due to the under 18 championships taking place.
