A group of university students have taken their favourite things – fashion and glamour – and put them together in a fashion parade like no other.
Beyond the Eyes fashion parade, which was held at Wyndham Caché last Thursday evening, was a fashion parade with a message bigger than the fashion on show.
Beyond the Eyes raised money and awareness for Beyond Blue – an organisation working to reduce the impact of depression and anxiety within the community.
Werribee South resident, Danyel Ahmed, was one of seven students from Victoria University who organised the event.
The idea of the parade was to get people to think beyond what they saw and ‘Beyond the Eyes’, Ms Ahmed said.
“Just because you see one thing it doesn’t mean you really know what’s going on in someone’s life,” Ms Ahmed said.
“She might look happy because she is the pretty, popular girl but we don’t really know what’s happening behind her eyes.”
The models, of all different shapes and sizes, wore masquerades down the catwalk in an attempt to get audiences thinking beyond the exterior.
Ms Ahmed said the event was a way to show case different people who may be experiencing the same thing – depression or anxiety – despite their appearance.
“We wanted to show people they are not alone, no matter what skin or body shape, someone else might be going through it as well,” Ms Ahmed said.
“It is all about seeing beyond the exterior and the clothes and fashion are an exterior,” she said.
