THE new kids on the block are ready to launch.
While some clubs in the Western Region Football League are enjoying the off-season, the Tarneit Titans are busily planning for year one of their history.
The club was officially welcomed into the league earlier this year and will field both seniors and juniors in the 2014 season.
Inaugural president Jay Hazelman said he was rapt with how much support the club had received from potential players.
“We started off planning for juniors and a couple of members then came on board and brought up the idea of seniors,” he said.
“We pushed with the idea and thought, we will give it a go and see if we can get the numbers.
“At this present stage, I think we have just over 100 expressions of interest for first grade and reserve grade.
“I wasn’t expecting that many numbers in the first year. To get over the 100 mark at the moment is great.
“There are 22 other clubs in the league so there are plenty of clubs out there for people to play at. It’s great to have this sort of support early on.”
Tarneit also announced that Daniel Mitchell will be senior coach next season with Mal Hartshorne his assistant.
As well as seniors and reserves, the club is also hoping to enter teams in under nines, 10s and 11s in the junior competition.
However, that may just be the start.
“We are hopefully going to have five teams,” Hazelman said.
“That was our main priority at the start. If there is interest in the other age groups, we are certainly happy to hear from people and will look into it. If we can get a side on the paddock in our first year we will run with it.”
Hazelman and his Titans’ committee are keen to hear from anyone in the community who would like to become involved in the new club in the way of playing or providing sponsorship.
There will be an open day this Sunday at the club’s home base at Wootten Road Reserve in Tarneit starting from 12pm.
“This open day is pretty much for the seniors to come and have a look,” Hazelman said.
“Everyone is welcome to say hello to the committee, the new coach and we will be having the unveiling of the jersey.”
