Point cook ready to roll

THE start of the Victorian Turf Cricket Association season may have been delayed by a week but Point Cook is still ready to roll.
The Warriors made their debut in the VTCA last season, after leaving the Williamstown District Cricket Association, and wasted no time making themselves at home.
Point Cook qualified both its first and second XI teams into finals as well as narrowly missing out on promotion.
With the new season now set to kick off this weekend, Warriors’ coach Travis Bean has been impressed with his side’s pre-season after emphasising the need for a fast start.
“We just want to be consistent early on,” he said.
“The pre-season we have done has been really good. We have been stressing to the players to be ready early on. You can get a good advantage if you win some early games.
“After Christmas, when the weather is better, we want to be able to put ourselves in a position to make finals for the second year in a row.”
If practice match form is anything to go by, Bean is well on the way to getting the fast start he is after.
Point Cook played against VSDCA side Sunshine last month, winning two of the three matches on the day.
After coming close to promotion last year, the Warriors are again hunting a rise up the ranks.
“We were only 70 runs away from being promoted so we were really close to going up one level,” Bean said.
“I think it has got to be an aim especially in a comp like the VTCA where they do have relegation and promotion.
“You want to try and play the best cricket you can. The main thing is just to give us a chance to play finals again and if we manage to make a grand final or something like that then that is great. You need to get there first though.”
Point Cook will take on Kingsville Baptists at Saltwater Reserve this Saturday.
