THE Red Cross is calling for urgent donations of pre-loved summer clothing that can be sold in local stores just before the heat hits.
National Marketing Manager, Jayne-Anne Power said currently the biggest need in stores was for ladies summer clothing, particularly dresses.
“Red Cross has 159 recycle shops around the country and donated goods make up 90 per cent of our sales,” Ms Power said.
“We now need to fill our stores with good quality, affordable summer stock to satisfy our customer’s needs and help raise money for Red Cross,” she said.
Werribee Store Supervisor Rita Clifford said the donation of goods was important and helped in many ways.
“It helps the community because the Red Cross don’t purchase any goods so the more donations that come in the more they can help the local community,” Ms Clifford said.
“We will accept all donations, but we can’t take electrical, and if we don’t sell them here they will get sorted and sent to other stores.”
Clothes can be donated directly over the counter at local Red Cross stores or placed in donation boxes located at the entrance at each store.
The proceeds from the Red Cross Shops help support every day work of the Red Cross including disaster support, breakfasts for children who need a healthy start to the day and daily phone calls to check on the well-being or isolated or elderly Australians.
