HAVOC hit Wyndham and the weatern suburbs last week as severe weather and storms hit town.
Wyndham was the worst hit suburb in Melbourne’s West.
The Wyndham SES Unit received 235 calls for assistance following last Monday’s severe wind and storm.
Wyndham Unit spokesperson Kylie Cowie said the unit members worked through the night and continued to work throughout the week in an effort to clear the backlog of calls.
“This is the busiest period the unit has experienced for many years,” Ms Cowie said.
The calls continued throughout the week reaching approximately 400 calls for help last week.
The team was extremely busy having already responded to 180 calls from the week before Ms Cowie said.
Many homes were damaged, with residents experiencing broken or missing roof tiles, fences ripped down as well as torn trees and the disappearance of backyard furniture, like trampolines and sheds.
The worst affected areas included Hoppers Crossing, Point Cook and Tarneit.
SES units from across Victoria were called in to lend a hand with the mess.
Crews from Cobram, Bright, Gisborne and Tallangatta were just a few units who called Wyndham home for the week while tackling the calls for help.
