WYNDHAM City Council hopes to provide more opportunities to enrich the lives of residents through arts and culture.
Part of the proposed plans include tailored cultural activities for children and families, more art exhibitions, ‘pop up’ displays around the city and other regular networking opportunities for artists and the creative industry sector.
The Creative Communities & Cultural Places: A Cultural Development Strategy for Wyndham was put together following extensive community consultation including focus groups involving members of the arts and cultural sector and online surveys.
Cr Adele Hegedich said one of the major findings of the survey was a high level of community involvement in events such as festivals and markets and support for more performing and visual arts activities within Wyndham.
“Cultural activities are important for building personal wellbeing and fostering a greater sense of community,” Cr Hegedich said.
The strategy is now open for public comment.
Copies of the strategy are available from the Wyndham Civic Centre, 45 Princes Highway, Werribee and Wyndham City Libraries or at www.wyndham.vic.gov.au, where you can also complete a short survey.
