THE Werribee Centrals Junior Football Club has reached double digits.
This year sees the club celebrate its 10th season in the Western Region Football League junior competition after forming in 2004.
Back then, the Centrals had just two teams and 40 kids running around at Galvin Park.
That number has now grown to nine teams and over 200 kids pulling on the Werribee jumper each weekend as the club continues to go from strength to strength.
Centrals’ president Ed Cachia said reaching the 10-year milestone was a great feeling.
“There has been that constant growth in the club each year which has been great to see,” he said.
“The club wasn’t built on winning premierships. It has always been about the kids playing football and enjoying their football.
“We let kids of any ability play the game which is a lot more important to us than winning premierships.
“If they want to come down and have a kick, then we will always let them.”
The club will hold a special dinner on Tuesday 16 July at Hotel 520 in Tarneit to officially celebrate the occasion.
All past and present players, committee members and supporters are welcome to attend with tickets available through the club.
There are no plans to slow down at the Centrals, with Werribee looking at getting its second oval developed to allow even more juniors to take up the game.
Cachia encouraged any juniors in the community interested in playing football to contact the club via its website.
“We are a family orientated club and we try to keep it that way,” he said.
“We have some good functions throughout the year. We have just come off grandparents’ day where we invited all the grandparents to the club to watch the game and have a coffee and cake afterwards.”
