MARIBYRNONG-based Rosamond continued its strong start to the Royal Victorian Bowls Association (RVBA) Premier Division season, with a 98-73 win against Werribee RSL on Saturday.
The Rockets claimed three of the four matches, with Neill Smith (27-14), David Zitter (32-18) and Reed Chanter (21-20) all successful.
Skipper Steve Fowler narrowly lost his rink (18-21), but it was a polished performance from the Rockets, who continue to impress in the early part of the season.
A commanding start set the platform for Rosamond’s latest victory.
While Werribee has found the going difficult in the early rounds, no opposition in the Premier Division is merely a speed hump.
“Werribee is struggling a little bit this year, but we still had to go out and beat them. We struggle most years, so I think we know that feeling,” Fowler said.
“Any win for us is really good. To win three of the first four, I’m really happy with that.
“I think we jumped them pretty early. We won by 25 and we were up by about that margin at the break.
“Overall, it was a very good performance from us.”
Fowler said Zitter, who has been in super form, was again the Rockets’ best player.
Fowler is also abiding by the traditional week-by-week method to ensure his players do not look too far ahead and maintain adequate focus.
A double-header is next on the agenda for Rosamond, with matches against Bundoora RSL (Friday) and Mentone (Saturday).
“I’d really like to win the two games this weekend and they are definitely winnable.
“Then it gets real tough for us, as we start hitting Altona, Clayton and Melbourne.
“I’ve been drumming it into the guys that we don’t want to be saving relegation.
“We want to try and make that top four and make an impact.”
