WYNDHAM Vale has slipped to fifth on the Western Region Football League Division 2 ladder after going down to Parkside by 39 points on Saturday.
The Falcons were 10 points up at the first break, but the Magpies booted seven goals to two in the second quarter and never rescinded their comfortable buffer to claim the important victory and keep the pressure on the undefeated Yarraville Seddon.
The loss was Wyndham Vale’s second in a row, after the Falcons were beaten by Yarraville Seddon by 28 points.
The tough run continues with Wyndham Vale to take on third-placed Coburg Districts on Saturday.
A win would give Wyndham Vale a six-point buffer to sixth-placed Albanvale, which has the bye.
Coburg sits on nine wins and three losses, and could move up to second if Yarraville Seddon defeat Parkside in the match of the round.
The Eagles thrashed the Magpies by 96 points when the two sides met in Round 3.
A draw was enough for Glen Orden to move up to fourth place, after the Hawks and Albanvale could not be separated.
The scores were locked at 18.7 (115) to Albanvale’s 17.13 (115) in the remarkable game that ebbed and flowed throughout.
Barely more than a goal separated the sides all game, and the Hawks went into the last quarter seven points up.
Brent Henry kicked seven goals for Glen Orden and Daniel Lee chipped in with four.
In other results, Laverton Magpies had its second win of the season, against a winless North Sunshine, 25.20 (170) to 4.1 (25).
North Sunshine has not been competitive at all this year while the Magpies have performed below expectations.
Both sides are prime examples of the unevenness of the WRFL, which is one of the main arguments for a proposed split to three divisions.
Coburg Districts had a comfortable 107-point win against West Footscray. Sean Pipe kicked eight goals for Coburg.
Adam Baker booted nine for Yarraville Seddon in the Eagles’ 231-point demolishing of Braybrook, and shot to the top of the goalkicking leaderboard, four ahead of Coburg’s Luke Vincitorio and teammate Serif Mohamed.
