THE heritage of Wyndham’s families will be celebrated later this month with Wyndham Council organising a range of events for National Family History week.
Deputy Mayor Glenn Goodfellow said genealogy was a popular topic at the moment with over 250,000 Australians being members of family history related organisations.
“Many people enjoy finding out about their families past and Wyndham Libraries can help,” Cr Goodfellow said.
“Come on the genealogy tour to learn how to access the resources available at Wyndham Libraries, including Ancestry.com and Find My Past UK and Australia for free or join us for a beginners workshop if you just don’t know where to start.”
Cr Goodfellow said that one of the events being held during the week, which runs from 27 July to 5 August, would be an heirloom evaluation.
“Come to the ‘Antiques Roadshow’ style valuation event. Bring along your antiques, heirlooms and collectables and have them valued by government approved valuer David Foreman for $5 an item (maximum five items),” he said.
“We’d also love you to share your old photos and slides of Wyndham with us, and become part of the soon-to-be released Wyndham History Website. Tell us everything you can about your photos and help contribute to building a picture of our past.”
