WERRIBEE’s outstanding run in the Men’s Division One Big V basketball competition has been halted after a 14-point loss to Camberwell on Saturday night. The Devils were out of sorts all match and after giving up an 11-point lead going into quarter time could not force their way back into the contest. The Dragons maintained the pressure throughout the night as four players posted double figure scores in the 82-68 win. Jordan Hughes and Mark Rizza led the scoring for Werribee with 12 points each while Dion Jewell scored 10 and had three rebounds. In good news for the Devils, the loss won’t be enough to knock Werribee off top spot on the Terril pool ladder with the club still 10 points ahead of its nearest rival Mildura. The weekend’s result does preview what is going to be an exciting finals series with Camberwell sitting on top of the Watson pool ladder, having posted a similarly dominating season to the Devils. The Werribee players will look to bounce back from the disappointment on Saturday night when they meet Melbourne University.
AFTER coasting to their first win of the season last week against Mornington, the Werribee Women’s Division Two side has made it two in a row this time with a three point win over Melbourne University. The Werribee side was outscored for the majority of the match and looked to be headed towards another loss after falling 14 points behind at half time. But a stunning last quarter from the Devils saw Werribee hit an incredible 24 points to Melbourne’s eight to claim the remarkable three point win. Tenielle Brown was the star of the show for Werribee scoring 15 points while Jacqueline Silcock also added 10 points. Although the result won’t move Werribee off the bottom of the ladder the Devils are finishing the season strongly after a tough first half. This week they will look to make it three wins in a row against Western Port on Saturday night.

Their 25-22 defeat of HCSC Cubs caps off a wonderful legacy of nine straight grand final appearances. The Rock Angels consist of Kasey Manic, Tayla Fredrikson, Taylah Bonnet, Brooke Venner, Kyla Camerilli, Georgia Mall, Olivia Walsh, Montana Whittingham, Jasmine Duncan, and coach Kim Manic and Sharon Walsh.
WERRIBEE Centrals slipped from third to sixth after a heavy loss to reigning premier Bell Post Hill in round 12 of the Geelong and District Football League on Saturday. After a low-scoring first quarter, Bell Post Hill dictated terms in the second quarter and skipped out to a 28-point lead. The hard-running Panthers extended their lead by four points in the third term, and dominated the last quarter to win 17.12 (114) to 6.9 (45). David Leatch and Brendan Chugg were slid for Centrals but the side didn’t have many winners across the park. Bell Post Hill’s run and spread was left Centrals looking flat-footed. Werribee will take on third-placed East Geelong this Saturday in a must-win game.
