MORE than 25 hot-water system “boosters” have been stolen from backyards across Wyndham since December.
The crime spree has seen at least 26 boosters taken from homes in Tarneit, Wyndham Vale and Point Cook. “The offenders are jumping fences to access the backyard and are then removing the boosters from the systems, leaving home owners without any hot water and expensive repair bills, not to mention the inconvenience,” Senior Constable Fiona Reid said.
“In some cases the offenders are targeting houses with no fences and in areas that there are not many occupied housing (new estates).” Ms Reid suggested residents could put a cage around their hot water systems to deter thieves. She appealed for plumbers or anyone who has been approached to buy a booster, or anyone with information, to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
