Young Hoppers Crossing Songstress Yasmin Ismail is singing at new levels in the upcoming production of the Disney classic Cinderella at Her Majesty’s Theatre.
The production marks the first appearance on a professional stage for the talented 19-year-old.
She will perform as the chorus/spirit one.
“It’s been a long journey and very very hard but I’ve kept at it,” Yasmin said.
She started performing on stage in amateur theatre when she was 14 years old and landed her first lead in the production Annie when she was 16.
“It was amazing,” she said.
“It was so awesome to have everyone looking up to you and kind of being in the middle of it all,” Yasmin said.
Yasmin, who has been singing since she was eight, joined The Opera Studio after graduating from Thomas Carr College.
She said both schools played a vital role in helping her develop as a professional.
“Opera is the hardest genre you have to go through, it’s very precise and there’s just so much precision involved,” she said.
Yasmin said her singing teacher Michael Lapina helped her find that Opera was the genre best suited for her voice.
“I never really knew my place within my singing, I’ve sung all sorts of genres,” she said.
“Opera just sat with me; it just felt right whereas the other genres didn’t.”
Yasmin’s extensive portfolio includes performing at Disneyland California, opening sporting events by singing the national anthem as well as performing alongside Hugh Jackman.
“My dream is to be internationally successful but I really want to have my skill level up to the standard before going out there.”
