WESTERN Bulldog Callan Ward is the AFL Rising Star nominee for round 18, following a stunning performance against Fremantle last Saturday.
The former Spotswood junior and Western Jet picked up 22 disposals, five marks and kicked two goals in the 31-point victory.
The nomination is just reward for the 19-year-old’s consistency throughout the season, where he has averaged 16 possessions and kicked 12 goals.
After playing six games in 2008, Ward has cemented his spot in the Dogs’ best 22, playing 15 games so far this season.
Coach Rodney Eade said the Rising Star nomination was well deserved.
“We have been extremely pleased with Callan’s development this season,” he said.
“He is now playing a key role in the midfield, and this nomination is a testament to his persistence and work rate.”
Ward’s junior club, Spotswood, will receive a NAB Club Recognition Award, including $1,500 in a NAB Community Fee Saver Account, Sherrin training footballs, water bottles, a water bottle rack, ball carry bag, AFL training manuals and a framed presentation piece featuring Ward.
Ward backed up his round 18 performance with two goals and 15 possessions in his side’s shock loss to West Coast. He finished the match with seven kicks and eight handballs for the match.
