Six arrested in raids

MORE than $3 million worth of drugs were seized and six people arrested following drug raids in Sunshine, Dandenong and South Yarra last week.
Drug Task force detectives raided a Sunshine home last Monday, seizing more than 73,000 ecstasy tablets and 10 kilos of amphetamine powder before locating a clandestine laboratory during South Yarra and Dandenong raids. The busts follow a series of successful raids last weekend in the West in which a major drug syndicate, believed to have been operating for 15 years, was cracked.
Six people were arrested during the raids including two Sunshine men.
A 24-year-old Sunshine man was charged with manufacturing and trafficking a large commercial quantity of amphetamine while a 22-year-old Sunshine man was interviewed in relation to drug and proceeds of crime matters but was released pending further inquiries.
Sunshine Criminal Investigation Unit Detective Senior Sergeant Fred Grove said four of his detectives attended the Sunshine raid.
Det Sen Sgt Grove said the Victoria Police Licensing Services Division had been executing a firearms warrant at the address when they came across the ecstasy tablets and called in members from the Sunshine CIU and the Victoria Police Drug Task Force for assistance.
The seizure and arrests had been a positive outcome for police but it was concerning for the area, Det Sen Sgt Grove told Star. “Drugs are certainly a big concern to police in Sunshine because drugs are generally a major cause of the majority of our crime,” he said. “We will most certainly be monitoring the situation and continue to run operations on a required basis to try and impact on the drug issues within the Sunshine area.”
