Wyndham history is long overdue

WYNDHAM residents have labelled a council decision to publish a book on its history as long overdue.
Councillors gave their in-principle support at last Monday’s council meeting for the project that will focus on a local historical account since the end of World War II.
A management team was also formed to be headed by councillors Heather Marcus and John Menegazzo.
The 150th anniversary of Wyndham in local government by 2011 was seen as the perfect opportunity.
There has only been one comprehensive history of the municipality published “Werribee: The First 100 Years”.
Point Cook Residents Association president Daniel Mumby said it was a long time coming.
“This is a good thing to have a well researched his-tory book,” he said. “It shows that council is not just thinking about rates and rubbish.”
The cost to create the artefact could soar to more than $150,000 to cover the historian’s fee, travel expenses, accommodation, photocopying, copying of images, professional indemnity insurance, public liability insurance, transcription services, equipment and search fees.
A council report stated apart from recording chronological milestones it would have a good local history analysis of the contributions which have been significant in leading to the development of a city.
The project could take up to 16 months to complete.
