POLICE are still searching for a man who allegedly indecently assaulted a 12-year-old girl at a Hoppers Crossing swimming pool more than five months ago.
On Anzac Day, 25 April, this year the young victim was swimming in the pool at the Wyndham Leisure and Events Centre on Derrimut Rd Hoppers Crossing when the man began to follow her and make lewd comments.
At the time of the assault Detective Sergeant Jason Walsh said he was sickened by the incident and that the 12-year-old girl had tried to protect her eight-year-old friend from the man’s advances.
“The 12-year-old girl is extremely upset and shaken as a result of the incident. She was extremely brave and her main concern was for the eight-year-old,” Det Sgt Walsh said.
It’s believed that the man followed the girls for more than an hour and said things like, “you look nice today” and “I’m going to get you.”
A woman who had been with the girls had left them to get lunch when the assault took place.
Police have renewed calls for anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
