Internet boost

MORE Wyndham Vale households and businesses will now have access to fast, fixed-line broadband after Telstra completed the roll-out of 17 ‘top hats’ in the area.
The top hats will provide additional broadband capacity for homes and businesses in up to 170 streets by integrating new ADSL 2+ technology with existing telecommunications services in each neighbourhood.
The area’s phone network has also been upgraded to remove potential bottlenecks.
Wyndham Mayor, Heather Marcus, said while the installation of the top hats was a step in the right direction, Wyndham would continue to campaign for the installation of broadband technology across the entire municipality.
“The connection of broadband will allow many of our residents and businesses to take to advantage of the latest technology and help to grow Wyndham’s economy,” Cr Marcus said.
In April last year, the National Broadband Network announced it would connect 30,000 homes and business in Werribee, Werribee South, Hoppers Crossing and Tarneit to broadband over the next three years, with works underway on nine sites where development will take place in the coming years.
“However, some high-growth suburbs including parts of Point Cook, Wyndham Vale and Tarneit missed out on being part of the rollout,” Cr Marcus said.
“It’s not acceptable that there are still some areas within the City that still rely on out of date dial up internet connection or are reliant on more expensive, slow and unreliable wireless connectivity.”
