Plan for growth

REVENUE raised from land sales in Point Cook West should be used on the development of East Werribee and the State Government should plan for an increase in traffic congestion around the Hoppers Crossing Train Station, a new submission has recommended.
A submission to the Growth Areas Authority and the State Government from the Committee for Wyndham in response to the draft East Werribee Master Plan was released last week.
Executive Director of the Committee, Chris Potaris, said in the submission that the East Werribee Employment Precinct Master Plan should also include a justice precinct and government offices should be relocated to the area.
In total 22 major recommendations were made in the submission.
The 68-page submission also pushed the importance of creating jobs in the area.
“The mere development of a PSP (precinct structure plan) or Master Plan will not attract or increase employment in the region,” the submission said.
“The GAA and State Government must establish a Development Authority to develop a Governance Model for the East Werribee Employment Precinct Master Plan.”
The submission said that by 2031 there would be a proposed total of 121,000 dwellings in Wyndham, a growth of about 50,000 from this year.
A feasibility study to determine the viability of a light rail system within the master plan was also recommended. “Light rail services encourage pedestrians, cyclists and other transit riders to the new precinct and create an opportunity for local economic and community-based activities,” the submission said.
“The possibility of introducing light rail services to the East Werribee and surrounding areas certainly supports the overarching objective of this Master Plan; job creation and increased employment levels within our region.”
