AS THOUSANDS of Wyndham residents pulled on their lycra pants and strapped on their helmets last week, another dedicated group of people were watching their every move.
Win Brown from Point Cook was one of a selfless group of people that got up early last Tuesday to monitor the patterns of Wyndham’s cycling community.
The Super Tuesday Annual Bike Count was organised by Bicycle Victoria and saw volunteers count the number of cyclists that used 24 of Wyndham’s busiest intersections.
Bicycle Network’s Bike Futures Manager Mike Williamson said their Super Tuesday Annual Bike Count data is a necessary tool for councils in planning bike riding facilities that deliver community benefits in a cost efficient manner.
“Reliable data on bike riding patterns is critical for planning infrastructure improvements,” Mr Williamson said.
“The difference with our Super Tuesday Annual Bike Count data is that we can show how many people are riding and where they are riding. This strengthens the case for further investment in better bicycle facilities”.
Raw data collected from the project is expected to be provided to Wyndham Council by the end of March.
