AN ARTWORK inspired by Wyndham’s booming population will feature on a postcard and in an exhibition celebrating the area.
Werribee resident and artist Pina Carrubba said she was excited to discover her artwork ‘Our City Bursting at the Seams’ was selected for the display.
Ms Carrubba entered her piece in the ‘City, Coast, Country’ exhibition after Wyndham City Council invited people to submit their artwork, based on the municipality’s features and beauty.
More than 50 paintings, photographs, sculpture and etchings have been picked for display at the Wyndham Art Gallery, including Ms Carrubba’s picture.
Her artwork was one of six pieces also selected to feature on postcards to promote the area.
Ms Carrubba said all the new residents moving into Wyndham, the fastest-growing council area within Victoria, inspired her to create the artwork.
“We used to have horses in paddocks and now we have estates everywhere,” she said.
“I’ve been living in Werribee for 26 years and I’ve see it grow so quickly to so many people.
“I still see Werribee as a little bit country and the council plants trees everywhere, so it still feels a bit like a country town.
“We’ve got all different types of people here, which is great.”
The multi-talented artist also sews, is studying professional writing for children and her paintings have featured in other shows around Wyndham.
“I would love to do it full time but it’s something which is quite expensive to do and hard to get into doing full time,” she said.
The ‘City, Coast, Country’ exhibition will be on at the Wyndham Art Gallery, Wyndham Cultural Centre, 177 Watton St, Werribee until 27 April.
