HOW many 72-year-olds can say they hold 10 world records in athletics?
That is just one of the many claims to fame that Hoppers Crossing resident Bob Soulsby can make. The retired fire fighter cleaned up at this years Victorian Police and Emergency Services Games in Glen Waverley, taking home seven gold medals. Mr Soulsby, who won every sport he entered, said that while most people his age are slowing down, he liked to keep fit and healthy.
“I’m slowing down too, but I hope to keep running right up to a very old age,” Mr Soulsby said. “The doctors told me that with my fitness it’s best just to keep going.” Mr Soulsby boasts an impressive sporting record, collecting over 300 medals in his lifetime, running at the Stawell Gift 26 years in a row and even playing football with the great Bob Rose.
