Arts centre recognised

THE Footscray Community Arts Centre has been recognised as a finalist in this year’s inaugural Community Sector Awards in the new ways to engage with the local community category.
The community sector contributes about $2 billion in services each year and the awards aim to highlight the vital roles of these organisations to the daily lives of Victorians, Minister for Community Development Lily D’Ambrosio said.
“The selection panel had a very difficult task because the quality of community sector organisations, and their commitment to innovation, is second to none.” Ms D’Ambrosio said.
“Victoria has one of the strongest community sectors in the country, with over 120,000 not-for-profit and community organisations that touch on almost every aspect of community life – from education and the environment, across health and social services, to religion and sport.”
