KATRINA Shaw prices all her merchandise with playing cards and wants Maribyrnong City Council to introduce gothic meter maids.
Welcome to Loser, Ms Shaw’s tribute to “the loser king on the street”.
The Barkly St punk store specialises in one-off t-shirts, leatherwear and novelty items, and is decorated with art from people all over Melbourne.
Ms Shaw said she wanted Loser to highlight the different games people play to try and distinguish who they are.
“I want to make people more aware of the covers we all wear in public. This breaks down the fear people can have about sub-groups,” she said.
“I’m a punk, it’s a game… and Loser is a way to kick-start the game.”
Ms Shaw said she planned to ask the council to introduce gothic meter maids to make light of paid parking in Footscray’s CBD.
Ms Shaw opened Loser on the summer solstice and closed it briefly earlier this year to take stock. She is having a Loser launch on 31 October and local band Scrayfish will be playing on the day.
