SNAKE season is coming up as the weather gets warmer, and residents are being warned to be vigilant around their homes and gardens.
The summer months are the hatching season for snakes, and Tiger Snakes, Eastern Brown and Little Whip snakes are the most common around Wyndham.
The council says that there are a few ways to keep snakes at bay, including mowing the lawn regularly. Wyndham Mayor, Cr Heather Marcus said that it was important residents know that snake season is nearly upon us.
“Snakes can be found in residential areas, suburban parks, beaches, rivers and built up areas and residents are encouraged to be cautious when moving timber, tree branches or iron sheeting around their homes which are popular hiding places for snakes,” Cr Marcus said.
The city has erected signs at several waterways and hotspots for snakes.
Residents who spot a snake in their home or garden should call Wyndham City’s Legislative Services Department on 9742 0777 or visit the City’s website www.wyndham.vic.gov.au
