WYNDHAM’S youngest residents will be busy this week celebrating a brighter future.
This week marks Planet Ark’s National Recycling Week and the kids at Wyndham Vale’s Community Children Child Care and Kindergarten know the importance of the week.
All the kids will be celebrating the week with a massive book swap party.
Sustainability Leader for Community Children Sarah Lawrence said the children were encouraged to bring in a book they were happy to swap with other children.
“All of our children have donated a book,” Ms Lawrence said.
“They will get to go shopping and bring a new old book home, it’s lovely for them,” she said.
“They are very excited, they’re all talking about which books they were bringing and which books they want to get.”
Throughout the week children will take turns in choosing a book to take home from the bunch of pre-loved books which they donated.
Rather than asking the parents to bring in just any book the children were actively involved in the event by donating and choosing replacement books themselves.
“We asked the children to find a book that they didn’t read anymore, that was still nice and that somebody else might like to read,” Ms Lawrence said.
“When they choose the books to swap they’re happier to donate and they also have a better understanding of what’s going on,” she said.
“They understand that someone else will get their book and they will get theirs.”
