IT’S one of those activities almost anyone can do and everyone is invited to do.
The Western Athletics group know all there is to know about running, and they love it.
Whether it’s recreational or for recovery purposes, the group enjoy an early morning run every Saturday at the You Yangs.
Janice Hodgart recently joined the group on their weekly runs and has since become a member.
But you do not have to be a professional or a member to join.
Having never run before, the 50-year-old Hoppers Crossing resident thought she would try it one morning with her daughter, who was already running with the group.
“It gets you up and you feel really good doing it,” Ms Hodgart said.
“There are different age groups, mums, dads, kids and teenagers, it’s open to anyone,” she said.
“Anyone and anybody can turn up.”
Ms Hodgart said people group together according to their abilities and speed.
“It’s just nice to run with someone than by yourself,” she said.
“And it’s just safer.”
Ms Hodgart said unlike other activities, like swimming, running allowed her and others to have a chat along the way.
“It’s very hard to chat in the water while swimming, but you can run and talk,” she said.
“When you talk, you don’t worry about it.”
Western Athletics meet every Sunday morning at 8.25am in the You Yangs , at the Rangers Hut car park near the park entry, no cost is involved. For more information, call Phil on 0411 279 828.
