Academy gets ready to hip hop

IT’S time to get your hip hop on. As part of their three-year residency at Footscray  Community Arts Centre, Comedy Festival stars Aamer Rahman, above, and Nazeem Hussain are serving up the Hip Hop Academy – a program offering young people aged between eight and 25 from the West an opportunity to work with some of Australia’s most dynamic hip hop artists. Through a series of free weekend workshops, the Hip Hop Academy explores all aspects of hip hop and its culture – including MCing, beat making, breaking, graffiti, rap and DJing, hip hop fashion, film and documentaries – and also looks at unde lying issues of social discrimination and race relations. Workshop instructors  include the legendary B-Boy Lamaroc, DJ Pataphysics, and Melbourne graf artist Monkey.
