Green thumbs getting wet

By Bridie Byrne
GREEN thumbs will be out on watch to celebrate local waterways next weekend.
A Waterwatch Family Festival set to be staged at Lollypop Creek will coincide with National Water Week.
There will be water-themed activities involving local experts, artwork and a wild action zoo.
The event is held in a different western municipality each year.
Smart WaterMark CEO Julian Gray said the week was a timely reminder to the community it was easy to save water.
“Saving water also saves us money – for any outlay there is usually an increased saving in the family budget,” he said.
“By taking simple measures, thousands of litres of water can be saved and reduced water bills will result.”
Mr Gray said there were many innovative ideas, such as using mulch in the garden or pot plants, fitting a shower timer, installing a rainwater diverter, using a waterless car wash and collecting grey water.
The festival will take place on 24 October from 10am until 2pm.
