WERRIBEE police have impounded more than 60 vehicles over the last nine months in a bid to curb hoon activity.
Werribee police clamped almost 240 vehicles since the anti-hoon legislation came into force in July 2006.
Senior Constable Graeme Crouch said there had been 63 impounds from January to September this year.
He said out of the 42 offenders 63 resided in the City of Wyndham.
Twenty four were for improper use of a motor vehicle, 28 for excessive speed over 45km, two nabbed for speed trials, two evading police, two careless driving and two for driving while disqualified.
Males made up the majority with 61 compared to just two female drivers.
Half were by drivers 21 years or younger, 31 were P platers, 22 full licence holders, one learner, five disqualified drivers, three international licence holders and one unlicensed.
In Victoria, 3000 vehicles had been impounded last year and more than 8000 over the last three years.
Police can impound or immobilise vehicles for 48 hours when members believe someone has committed a hoon-related offence.
The courts can order that vehicles be impounded or immobilised for three months or forfeited permanently.
