Walking to learn

MARIBYRNONG Mayor Sarah Carter is calling on all kids to pull on their shoes for Victoria Walks to School Day next week.
Victoria Walks to School day aims to raise awareness of the need for children to make walking part of their daily routines to improve health and fitness, friendships and self confidence.
Last year 70,000 primary school children from 363 Victorian schools participated – double the number of school kids who had walked to school the previous day.
Schools that sign up go in the running to win sports carnivals and sporting vouchers, and have the chance to win the Golden Shoe award.
“Walking is a great way to stay fit, be kind to the environment and enjoy your surroundings and friends,” Cr Carter said.
“I encourage all school kids, parents and teachers in the City of Maribyrnong to take part.”
The Victoria Walks to School day is on 19 October.
