THE Christmas season is approaching, and Maribyrnong retailers have said they hope residents will shop locally this festive season.
Footscray Traders Association president Grant Miles said most of the area’s businesses were small, independently-owned and run by people who lived within the area.
“A big benefit of shopping in Footscray for local residents is, when you spend money in Footscray, that money stays in Footscray,” Mr Miles said.
Mr Miles said he believed the customer service at Footscray’s many small businesses was generally better than what larger companies could offer.
“Also there is more diversity in Footscray and there are more individual things you can find, which are unique and one-offs,” he said.
Mr Miles said Footscray was the ideal place to purchase discount homewares, groceries and meals.
