MORE Wyndham parents than ever are turning to a Catholic education for their children with a new school in the urban fringe attracting an unprecedented number of enrolments.
St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School opened in Tarneit last week with around 200 students walking through the front gates.
Principal Jan Keogh said the student numbers are unprecedented for a new Catholic school and reflect the huge growth in Catholic education in Melbourne’s West.
“This is tremendously exciting for the Tarneit area and for those families who want a Catholic education for their children,” Ms Keogh said.
“To have such a large number enrolled for the first day of a new school is quite unbelievable. It is wonderful for the school community and Catholic education in the area.”
As the population in Tarneit, as well as the rest of Wyndham continues to grow, Ms Keogh said the school was well and truly prepared to accommodate the residents and their families.
“The school’s design reflects our approach of personalised learning within a contemporary setting that is encouraging and engaging.”
“Parents are showing faith in Catholic education and along with the teachers, the students and the parish priest, Father Jude Pirotta, everyone is very enthusiastic and ready for the big year ahead.”
The school is located behind Thomas Carr College in Tarneit, at 45 Fairview Parade.
