WYNDHAM residents are being encouraged to take a proactive role in the safety of their community as a unique idea continues to make a difference.
Since July last year police from Wyndham have been manning a mobile facility in the Point Cook town centre in a bid to engage with local shoppers.
The police have been using the mobile police facility to provide a visible police presence and interact with local community members.
Wyndham Community Liaison Officer Leading Senior Constable Ross Whittingham encouraged shoppers to come down and express any local concerns they may have.
“The mobile police facility gives us a chance to be out on the street right in the heart of Wyndham,” Ldg Sen Const Whittingham said.
“We already have had some really positive feedback from local shoppers and traders – the police presence seems to be helping the public to feel safer in their community.”
The sheer size of Point Cook makes it difficult for police to be seen and many residents have complained in the past that it makes the suburb feel more isolated.
Ldg Sen Const Whittingham said residents should take the chance to let police know what they think should happen in the suburb.
“I encourage local shoppers and traders to pop by and chat with us about any crime or safety concerns they may have or provide us with feedback on how we can do things better,” he said.
“We want to hear from you.”
