THE people who give as much as they can to make Wyndham a better place will be honoured at a new community event.
The Werribee Racing Club will be hosting a race meeting in recognition of Wyndham’s different clubs, like Rotary and Lions.
The club’s General Manager, Ross Kendell, said it was a chance for one of Wyndham’s biggest assets to give back to the community.
“It started off as a bit of an organic thing and we invited one or two service clubs to join in and since then it has just grown legs and more and more clubs have come forward,” Mr Kendell said.
“It’s a day to recognise the contribution that clubs in Wyndham make to quality of life in the community.
“They really play a vital role.”
The event will be known as the Werribee Racing Club Community Club Race Day.
One of the highlights of the day will be the Community Club Stakes, a race named in honour of Wyndham’s clubs.
“It’s another way for the club to connect to the community, which is what we’ve wanted to do since day one,” Mr Kendell said.
Wyndham Mayor Heather Marcus said that residents should be proud of having a venue like the Werribee Racing Club on their doorstep.
“I think this is a fantastic opportunity to have our own special race day,” Cr Marcus said.
“Not every city has a racing club and a community event like this is a fantastic way to celebrate having such a wonderful facility.”
The Community Club Race Day will be held on Tuesday 25 June and is open to the general public.
Disabled access will also be available.
Community clubs that want to take part should call the Werribee Racing Club on 9741 1800.
