MORE than 61,100 Wyndham homes and businesses will be connected to the National Broadband Network by 30 June 2016, Prime Minister Julia Gillard has announced.
Ms Gillard said the updated three year rollout plan included an additional 14,200 premises connected in the Point Cook, Seabrook and Werribee South areas, as well as an extra 17,700 premises in Hoppers Crossing and Tarneit.
“This plan builds on already commenced work and will bring the total number of homes and businesses where NBN construction will commence or be complete by 30 June 2016 to more than 87,500 local premises,” Ms Gillard said.
“The NBN will transform the way we live our lives. It will enhance our connectedness, create business opportunities and change the way education and health care services are delivered.”
The Australian Government’s updated three year roll out plan will connect an additional 1.3 million homes and businesses to the NBN, bringing the total number of premises where NBN construction will commence or be complete by 30 June 2016 to more than six million premises.
Under the NBN, 93 per cent of homes and businesses around Australia will be connected to high-speed fibre broadband, capable of speeds of up to one gigabit per second.
Seven per cent will have access to high-speed fixed-wireless or next-generation satellite technologies providing peak speeds of 12 megabits per second.
