A TEAM of speedsters from Williamstown High School has taken out the Victorian All Schools Under 20 Cross-country Relay Championship.
The team, who organised themselves for the competition, were running against the might of the elite private grammar schools and colleges in their school colours, many of which had entered multiple teams.
But it was the four boys from Williamstown who absolutely destroyed the opposition.
Leading off, Jack Rayner got his team into a winning position early by carving up the four kilometre course in the second fastest time of the day.
Next on to the course was Jeremy Kirkham who, with a strong run, increased the lead.
Connor Lynch was third out of the blocks and the youngest of the team maintained the lead with a time of 14 min 40 secs.
The last runner, Nathan Pearce, was never going to let anyone catch him, cruising around the course in 13 min 01 secs.
The team finished 70 seconds ahead of second-placed St Kevin’s.
Adding to the magnitude of the win, three members of the Williamstown team could have run in the under-18 event.
Competing for St Kevin’s, Newport resident Luke Matthews posted the fastest time of the day, 12 min 30 secs.
