SIX new dog drinking fountains, which can also be used by humans, will be installed along the Werribee River shared path.
Wyndham City Council’s CEO Kerry Thompson said each fountain would cost approximately $2800 including installation.
“Wyndham City has installed a number of drinking water fountains with attached dog bowls across the municipality, as a result of feedback from residents,” she said.
Mayor John Menegazzo has also urged residents to register their pet canines and cats with the council, which is required under law.
The registrations, which require pets to be microchipped, were due by 10 April.
The mayor said Wyndham’s pet owners have been sent registration renewal and reminder notices recently.
“Wyndham City staff have been following up with people who had pets registered last year, but have failed to renew their pets registration,” Cr Menegazzo said.
“Pet owners must now ensure their cat or dog is registered with Wyndham City or risk a fine.”
Pet owners also need to notify the council in writing if their pets are microchipped or sterilised (proof required), deceased, no longer in their ownership or if they have changed their name or address.
“Wyndham is home to well over 20,000 registered cats and dogs and by registering your pet with the council, we are able to better develop facilities and events for pet owners,” Cr Menegazzo said.
