BUDDING young writer Peranevi Thayaparan has a passion for writing and has entered this year’s Brimbank short story and poetry awards with hopes of winning for the third year in a row.
The 14-year-old Taylors Hill resident has entered the competition for the past few years and has been quite successful, spurring on her siblings to enter the contest as well.
Peranevi attends MacRobertson Girls’ High School but was formerly a student at Keilor Downs Secondary College.
She said she was considering becoming a doctor to help others but loved the feeling writing gave her.
“I like to write short stories because they allow me to express myself creatively and to voice my opinions and feelings,” she said.
“There is so much freedom in a creative piece so you can get away with the most absurd and unusual ideas.”
Peranevi said she first entered the Brimbank writing competition for a challenge but loved it so much she had continued submitting entries.
“I’m currently planning on doing a short story based around family relationships which I think will be rather interesting,” she said.
“I will try my best and hope to perform just as well as I have in previous years.
“I wish to thank Brimbank City Council for giving people like me the chance to write and express ourselves.”
Brimbank residents of all ages are encouraged to enter this year’s competition however they must be quick with entries closing on Friday 17 July.
