WERRIBEE resident Aaron White has entered the Australia’s Hottest Tradie competition, but the luck of the Irish could help him win.
The 28-year-old drainer and excavator driver went in the annual competition, run by the dating website RSVP, at the urging of his girlfriend Joanne and other friends.
But Mr White, who has been a tradie in Australia for two-and-a-half years and before that in Ireland, said he would be surprised if he won the contest.
“I’ve always been very free-minded and I’m up for a laugh,” he said.
“It’d be good to win something if it came to that but it would be a bit of a shock.
“After I entered I looked at some of the other entrants and I thought, ‘I haven’t got a hope. I haven’t got a figure like that’.”
As an employee of Casabene Excavations and Drainage, Mr White said some of his workmates have voted for him in the competition, but none of his mates have entered.
Mr White began working as a tradie after training to become an aeroplane pilot, to help pay for his studies.
This year is the first time he has entered the competition, but Mr White said he would consider doing so again in 2012.
“If I manage to get a six-pack, I might enter again,” he said.
Although Mr White runs eight kilometres every day and rides a motorbike, he said he feels more confident in his personality than his looks.
“Vote for me because I’m Irish. Keep the Irish strong,” he said. The tradie who wins the competition will win a ute and fly to Sydney for the grand final.
