Awards for success

FLOURISHING businesses in the Western Region are what Michael Iaccarino loves to see.
He is the executive officer of Melbourne’s West Area Consultative Committee (MWACC), which is in its fourth year of sponsoring the Greater Western Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GWCCI) Business Excellence Awards.
“The most satisfying thing about being a sponsor is to see businesses grow, develop and receive the recognition that they deserve,“ Mr Iaccarino says.
The MWACC is dedicated to supporting initiatives that lead to growth and development in local businesses.
Mr Iaccarino said that “good and growing businesses that generate economic activity and employment” were needed in the northern and western suburbs for them to prosper.
“We encourage businesses in our region to strive for improvement, to benefit from the marketing opportunity that the awards present and to act as role models for other businesses,” Mr Iaccarino said.
“Entering the awards provides the opportunity to review your business and provides a benchmark against other businesses who are determined to be successful.
“It’s a valuable and very cost-effective marketing opportunity for your business.”
Categories for the awards include Cafe or Restaurant, Building and Construction, Retail, Franchise, Not for Profit, Export Achievement, Agriculture, Manufacturing, as well as categories for small, medium and micro/home office businesses.
There will also be an award for Young Achiever of the Year.
New this year are the Business Services, Personal Services and Transport categories.
Nominees are required to provide judges with an outline of business history, operations, features and staff.
Dale Hobsbawn, president of the GWCCI, said nominees would have the opportunity to network with sponsors, councillors, politicians, leading business owners and managers and representatives from the community during the presentation evening, which will be held at The Atrium in Flemington on 15 October.
