It’s a great excuse to have all your friends over for a cuppa and every cup counts in the name of charity.
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is a Cancer Council fundraiser which helps raise much needed funds for those affected by cancer.
Point Cook Retirement Village resident Judith Gaylor is putting on the kettle this May and encouraging everyone to come along.
“It’s something that I wanted to do,” Ms Gaylor said.
“I just got the idea into my head that I’d like to do it.”
Ms Gaylor has already started fundraising for the Biggest Morning Tea.
She has organised a raffle and has a number of other activities and competitions prepared for the morning tea including guess the name of a Golly doll, guess the number of jelly beans in the jar, a spinning wheel of prizes and a silent auction.
“I’ve got so many people already offering to help me,” Ms Gaylor said.
“So many residents are offering to do the cooking on the morning tea and are donating gifts.”
Breast Cancer is the most common cancer for women and 75 per cent of new cases of breast cancer develop in women over the age of 50.
“You think it doesn’t happen to me but it could,” Ms Gaylor said.
“And you also have to think of your daughters and your granddaughters.”
Judith’s Morning Tea will be held on Thursday 23 May from 11am to 3pm at the Point Cook Retirement Village Club House. For more information or to donate visit http://www.biggestmorningtea.com.au/.
