CHILDREN’S curiosity and busy fingers can often get them in trouble, but now they are being encouraged to use both of those things to unlock new levels of education.
Wyndham Council has recently installed Busy Things touch screen kiosks at libraries in the municipality.
Four of the innovative kiosks have been set up at the Werribee Plaza and Point Cook libraries and two each have been installed at the Wyndham Vale and Werribee Libraries.
Busy Things includes more than 120 interactive online digital games for children aged between three and six which educate and entertain.
Children can learn numbers, shapes and letters, create music and art and practice reading and spelling while developing their computer skills.
Cr Shane Bourke said Busy Things activities allow children to work on their own, but also encourage interaction with parents and other children.
“Busy Things provides children with access to a broad range of fun and interactive educational activities in a completely safe and easy to navigate digital environment,” Cr Bourke said.
“Children are able to draw letters, learn about shapes, letters and their sounds, improving their reading, spelling and maths skills and all of the games can be tailored to suit different ability levels.”
“By installing Busy Things across Wyndham City’s four library branches, it provides another platform for accessible and inclusive early childhood learning that is free and available to everybody.”
