IT’S back to the ’80s at Footscray City College this week as students tease their hair and strike dramatic poses for the musical Funky Town.
From the era that produced the rubik’s cube and break dancing, Funky Town tells the story of young Will, who is sucked into his father’s old walkman and transported into a magical land where ’80s pop stars reign supreme.
Before long, he is chased by an evil witch who wants one thing: Will’s iPod, leaving it up to Boy George, Billy Idol, Chrissy Amphlett and Adam Ant to save the day.
“It’s an idea I’ve had for a long time,” writer and director Tim Burns said.
“It’s the kind of music that parents have grown up with and the kids know all the songs too because of their parents.
“We’ve got some really good performances this year.”
More than 30 students from all year levels are involved in the musical, which will host three performances this week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Tickets are $15 per adult, or $10 for concession. Call 8387 1500.
