ONE of Wyndham’s top advocacy groups has reinforced calls for the East West Link to be built to help solve Wyndham’s traffic problems.
The Committee for Wyndham has pushed for the State Government to go ahead with the link “irrespective of the tight fiscal environment”.
Executive Director of the Committee for Wyndham, Nik Tsardakis, with Wyndham’s population expected to grow to 245,000 by 2021, the link was a vital component of infrastructure required for the area.
“Many critical aspects of Wyndham’s infrastructure remain barely adequate for current needs and the East West Link provides considerable economic opportunities that the state can leverage from the relatively affordable housing availability that’s driving the extraordinary population growth and
economic activity in Wyndham and the West,” Mr Tsardakis said.
“The proposed East West Link by itself will go a long way to deliver the essential services, drive
economic growth and support social needs thereby setting a platform for sustainable growth in
population and business output and competitiveness in the West.”
It comes as the Minister for Roads, Terry Mulder, said that the State Government was still waiting on a decision from the Federal Government about its application for funding to build a Sneydes Rd interchange.
“The Victorian Government sought funding from the Federal Government to construct an interchange at the intersection of Sneydes Rd and the Princes Freeway at Point Cook,” Mr Mulder said.
“We have not yet received a decision from the Commonwealth.”
